Mini-beast Safari

The Highfield Park Trust Mini-beast Safari is an educational event and will be ticketed in order that numbers can be restricted.  We want the participants to get as much as they can from this wonderfully excilerating experience, which has captivated both young and old alike. It is run from the Visitor Centre and, although a recent addition to the events itinerary, has always been well supported. We advise that you book early to avoid disappointment. Please note that a free car park is situated adjacent to the Visitor Centre.

Our next event will be held on Sunday 7th June 2020.  Tickets can be purchased through this website and cost £3 per head, which includes the safari with our fabulous local experts. Once completed we return to the Visitor Centre, where you can observe and discuss the mini-beasts with the experts using a variety of magnifying glasses and microscopes.

The event was first launched in 2016 and we have seen many diverse species since then, including many different types of shieldbug, beetles, ladybirds and spiders to name but a few. We’ve learnt of the caterpillar species that was the inspiration for the film Alien. We also now know our Pterostichus melanarius from our Graphopsocus cruciatus!  It is a great educational experience for everybody that attends and we hope that it will inspire an ongoing enthusiasm to find out more. It certainly inspires the Highfield Park Trust team!  The event closes with tea, coffee, apple juice and biscuits to round off an exciting morning for all the intrepid explorers.

Highfield Park Trust is extremely grateful for the support of Dan and Chris from Rothamsted Research and Joe Gray in this event.
