If you are faltering on some of your fitness plans and need a fresh impetus, then one of our more active trustees has put together a running route which we are calling Beating the Bounds.

If you have a compatible Garmin device then you could follow the route, you can also click on the link to see it on your computer or hand held device.

Our more active Trustee did the 2.34 mile run in 34 minutes, runners and joggers that is your time to beat! For the rest of use enjoy the walk which goes past some of the wonderful features of Highfield Park.

Route Description – (Red line on the map outlines the route)

Starting from the Camp Road/Hill End Lane junction enter the park at the entrance by the mini roundabout at the junction of Hill End Lane & Highfield Lane.

Pass the maze on your right and turn right onto the paved path, continue past West Lodge then through the orchard until you emerge near the Highfield Park Drive roundabout.

Cross the road and continue on the path through the section of the park south of Highfield Park Drive, keeping to the route on the right.

Enter Winchfield Wood on your right and follow the bark chip path until you emerge onto Highfield Lane.

Turn left and follow Highfield Lane, entering the pedestrian gate on your right just before Cranwell Close.

Follow the path between the fenced all weather pitches and the playing field as it bends to the left before turning right on the main paved path past the Village Green and  Hixberry Lane Orchard.

Exit through the pedestrian gate onto Hixberry Lane and turn left.

Between the two mini roundabouts on Hill End Lane turn left onto the Alban Way.

On your left you will see the old platform from the Hill End train station.

Keep an eye out for the blue sign pointing towards Highfield Park/Francis Bacon School/London Colney – turn left here through the Hill End Garden of Rest & cut through back onto Hill End Lane.

Turn right and follow Hill End Lane to complete the loop and return to your starting point.

General advice: take care when crossing roads, wear a head torch when it’s dark, some of the paths will be muddy after wet weather

http://www.parkrun.org.uk/stalbans/ – there is a free timed 5k in Verulamium Park every Saturday at 9:00am, and representatives are looking at the possibility of setting up a similar event in Highfield Park.
