The evening started with an informative talk , from Justin, our incredibly knowledgeable and local expert. He explained about the many different types of bats, both from the UK and abroad and we would be able to detect them with our bat detectors, which were once again provided by our friends at the Box Moor Trust.
Although not the best conditions , as it was a damp evening, armed with our new found knowledge, we heard through our bar detectors at least two types of bats and saw some of them around the tree tops and over by the Cell Barnes pond.
There are at least seventeen different types of bats to be found in the UK. So we know know from the frequency of the sound they emit that we have Pipistrelle Bats (Pipistrellus pipistrellus) and Noctule Bats (Nyctalus noctula) at Highfield Park.
We sold all our forty tickets for this event and is definitely one we will repeat for the future.
